First run

Getting started

Add a game, choose a destination, and make your first local revision.

Install and open Rove

Download the latest signed Windows release from GitHub Releases, run the installer, and open Rove from the Start menu or tray.

Add your first game

  1. Add a game profile.
  2. Choose the folder or file pattern that contains its saves.
  3. Pick a protection mode. Balanced is the default starting point.
  4. Choose where revisions should live: Local only, Google Drive, or a synced folder.

Rove creates a local revision before attempting any remote upload. The first revision is the useful checkpoint to look for when confirming setup.

Make the first checkpoint

Launch the game, make a small change, then exit or wait for the selected protection mode to checkpoint the save. Check Activity to confirm the revision exists.

Rove is designed for smaller traditional save sets. Results depend on save size, disk speed, antivirus, and the game.

If the first checkpoint does not appear

Check that the save path is correct, the game is not still writing the file, and Rove is not paused. See Troubleshooting for permission, file-lock, disk-space, and provider checks.
