Choosing a destination
Compare Local only, Google Drive, and synced-folder protection.
Local only
Choose Local only when you want local revisions and safe restores without remote replication. This is also a good way to validate a save location before adding a provider.
Google Drive
Google Drive is connected directly from the desktop app using user-authorized OAuth and the drive.file scope. End users do not supply developer API keys, and Rove does not operate a server in the middle.
Use this when you want a direct cloud destination and are comfortable managing Google Drive access, quota, and account permissions.
Synced folder
Choose a folder managed by OneDrive, Dropbox, Syncthing, or a similar tool. Rove writes its local revision and the provider handles its own replication.
Use this when you already have a trusted sync workflow or want to keep provider choice separate from the desktop app.
A practical decision
Start Local only. Add Google Drive or a synced folder after you have confirmed that Rove is watching the correct save location. Whichever destination you choose, local protection remains the first step.
